This week we are chatting about crates. There are lots options out there, but I’ve chosen a few specific options that will suit a range of different dog owners.

To simplify things a bit, I've categorised them into three sections:

• Soft Crates

• Hard Crates

• Furniture Crates

But the million-dollar question remains – which one is right for you?

Now, I’m not going to tell you which one to buy, but I can certainly share my thoughts on the matter.

So let’s go!

Soft Crates

These crates are amazing for a light weight travel alternative.

People also use these crates at agility or obedience competitions as a place for their dog to rest up during events as well as at home. I recommend using in conjunction with a hard crate for transport as they provide no protection from crashes or impacts.

My sister, with her duo of a miniature dachshund and a king charles cavalier spaniel, swears by soft crates. And why not? They're perfect for small dogs.

But…and it's a big but, if your dog has anxiety or has high drive to get out of the crate, they might not be for you – those soft walls can be chewed through, leading to a newfound freedom!

In summary, they’re great because:

• Suited for travelling
